In January 2024, HSE students from Moscow, St Petersburg and Nizhny Novgorod took part in the Winter School ‘Business and Governance in India’, hosted in Dehradun by the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES). Having now completed the course, its attendees—participants of the Master’s in Sustainable Business Management at HSE Graduate School of Business—shared their impressions with the HSE News Service.

For the 2nd year students of the Business Management program, a new educational case developed by the Financial Management Department of the Higher School of Business of the Higher School of Economics was tested. The author of the case, associate professor Yulia Leevik, together with the co—author of methodological guidelines for teachers on working with this case, senior lecturer Alina Vakhrushina, discussed the challenges faced by a knitting factory with 18 years of production experience on the way to entering the modern universe of electronic commerce.

In December, the HSE Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge and the HSE AI Research Centre participated in UNCTAD eWeek to discuss the future of the emerging digital economy. One of the topics discussed during the conference was artificial intelligence and its applications in driving the digital transformation of industry sectors. The session was co-organised by HSE University.

Open Innovation in Russia: Case of MTS
On November 30, the GSB hosted a seminar on usage of open innovation approaches in Russia. The guest speaker was Mr. Dmitry Kurin, Director of Open Innovations and Investments at MTS and a chairman of the academic council of the GSB’s master's program Business Analytics and Big Data Systems. The focus of the seminar was on MTS, Russia’s largest mobile operator and a leading provider of media and digital services, and its application of open innovation practices. The seminar was moderated by Zeljko Tekic, a professor of GSB.

3D tour of the HSE Graduate School of Business’ campus: students promote the history of Russian entrepreneurship
Students of the Business Management programme at the HSE Graduate School of Business have created a 3D model of the Shabolovka building. Over several months it took to digitize two floors of the fourth building and the entire campus and visualize more than 500 panoramas. The GSB students totally digitized more than 2,500 square metres of space! Nowadays the 3D tour has already been viewed by more than 1400 people. The development was carried out in the GSB Design and teaching laboratory “Entrepreneurship Centre” under the guidance of Dmitry Knatko, Academic Head of the Business Management educational programme. It became a part of the project studying textile entrepreneurship in Russia.

GSB students and trainees of further education programmes at the HSE Graduate School of Business now have a modern and comfortable space for work and creativity. Alfa-Bank opened an IT space at GSB — Alfa Space — a co-working for project and business communication. The opening ceremony was attended by Alfa-Bank's Chief Executive Officer Vladimir Verkhoshinsky and a team of the bank's top managers.

Students and professors of the HSE Graduate School of Business form a culture of sustainable tourism in Russia
The All-Russian online conference on sustainable tourism “Tourism of the Future” took place on 23-25 October, bringing together leading experts and representatives of the tourism industry from different regions of the country. The rich conference programme covered all aspects of sustainable tourism of the future, involving more than 50 speakers. The conference was attended by over 800 representatives of companies in the industry, including accommodation facilities, such as resorts and tour companies, as well as restaurants, guides, beauty brands and IT. One of the organisers of the conference was Yulia Frolova, a second-year student of the GSB Master's programme “Management of Sustainable Company Development”, being the part of the team of the eco-travel startup HEBI Travel.
