Research Activity

Scientific research is an important area of development for the Graduate School of Business at the HSE University. According to the Development Programme for the Period until 2030, the priority research areas of the school include digital transformation of business, fundamental transformation of corporate HR systems, international business development in the context of the "new globalisation", changing forms and mechanisms of business-government-society cooperation.

HSE Graduate School of Business sets its goal to create an extensive network of academic and international laboratories and research groups. The GSB plans to participate and hold annual international academic conferences. The core of this GSB's involvement should be GSB personnel's leadership in the scientific field and a stable flow of publications in highly ranked scientific journals.

The Institute of Innovation Management and Laboratory for Network Organisation are the starting points on the way to the Graduate School of Business' leadership in management research.

The Institute of Innovation Management, headed by Dan Medovnikov, was established in 2009 in order to conduct scientific and educational activities in the field of innovation and personnel training for the innovation sector in Russia. The Institute's priorities include research into fast-growing technology companies, the innovative activity of Russian companies, and innovation support infrastructure.

Laboratory for Network Organisation, headed by Professor Olga Tretiak, was established in 2010. The aim of the laboratory is to create an effective mechanism for the development and distribution of advanced theoretical approaches and practical technologies of network management in professional environment. 

HSE Graduate School of Business actively supports the creation of project groups, which stimulate interdisciplinary exchange and contribute to increase the number of publications. The first wave of the project competition was held in June 2020. Applications for the fifth enrolment closed on 10 January. All undergraduate and postgraduate students of HSE Graduate School of Business were invited to participate.  

The National Case Study Resource Centre was established under the auspices of HSE Graduate School of Business to develop, promote and implement educational cases, based on the materials of Russian firms and international companies doing business in Russia, into the learning process. The partnership with The International Case Centre will allow the GSB to become one of the drivers of Russian education export. 

The Doctoral School of Management provides support for young scholars. The main goal of the Doctoral School of Management is to create a unique research environment for training highly qualified management researchers for Russian and international universities, specialists for Russian and foreign research and consulting companies, and government agencies as well.

The interdisciplinary peer-reviewed scientific journal "Business Informatics" is also part of the research area of the Gradure School of Business. The journal is included into the list of the Higher Attestation Commission under the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation. The journal is among the editions supported under a joint project of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science and the non-profit partnership National Electronic Information Consortium to support programs for the development of scientific journals in order to enter international research databases.

Graduate School of Business’ Committee on Research is in charge to plan and coordinate scientific activities, ensure efficient spending of funds on scientific activities and other issues related to the development of scientific research at the GBS.

HSE Graduate School of Business supports students' interest in research and supervises two areas of the student research paper competition (Student Research Paper Competition): Business Informatics and Management.
