Russian Science Foundation Supports 15 Projects by HSE’s Early-Career Researchers
The Russian Science Foundation has announced the results of the youth contests of the Presidential Programme. HSE University’s early-career researchers are receiving grants for research projects in economics, psychology, sociology, political science, law, mathematics, information science, optics, engineering, and ocean studies.
Six HSE projects have been supported as a result of the ‘Independent studies by early-career researchers’ contest for the period from July 2023 to June 30, 2025, in the following fields: Mathematics, Informatics & Systems Sciences, Humanities & Social Sciences, Earth Sciences, and Engineering Sciences.

‘EU Actorness through the Prism of Interactionist Role Theory (Case Study of European-Chinese Relations): Challenges for Russia’, head Sergey Shein, Faculty of World Economy and International Relations (Centre for Comprehensive European and International Studies);
‘Fundamental Basics of Private Law Institutions in the Context of Digitalization’, head Alexey Volos, Faculty of Law (School of Private Law);
‘High-Choice Media Environment: Information Consumption in Contemporary Russia’, head Anastasia Kazun, Laboratory for Studies in Economic Sociology;
‘Non-Reflecting Propagation of Surface and Internal Waves in an Inhomogeneous Ocean’, head Ekaterina Didenkulova, HSE University in Nizhny Novgorod;
‘Mathematical Modelling of the Dynamics of the High-Speed Vehicles with Aerodynamic and Aerostatic Support’, head Fedor Peplin, HSE University in Nizhny Novgorod.

‘Agency of University Students and Graduates in the Field of Labour and Employment: Typology, Factors, Manifestations and Effects’, head Pavel Sorokin, Institute of Education (Laboratory for Human Capital and Education Research);
‘Factors of Intensification of SME Resources under External Uncertainty’, head Iulia Naidenova, HSE University in Perm;
‘Effects of Cognitive Biases on the Perception of Health-Related (Mis)information and Their Behavioural and Neural Correlates’, head Elena Artemenko, HSE University in St Petersburg;
‘Analysis and Optimization of Quantum Entangling Protocols for Systems of Neutral Atoms in Optical Microtraps’, head Leonid Gerasimov, HSE University in St Petersburg.
June 30, 2023 was the final day for the implementation of the three-year research team projects headed by early-career researchers supported by the Russian Science Foundation in 2020. Two HSE projects received grants enabling them to prolong their research until 2025:
‘Mathematical Modelling of Pathological Behaviour in Multiplex Networks Arising as a Result of Dysfunction of Single Elements in Application to Biomedicine Problems’, head Natalia Stankevich, HSE University in Nizhny Novgorod;
‘Categorization in Visual Perception and Formation of Actions’, head Elena Gorbunova, Faculty of Social Sciences (Laboratory for Cognitive Psychology of Digital Interface Users).
The Russian Science Foundation was created as a result of a presidential initiative in 2013. The foundation funds projects in science and technology, as well as supporting fundamental research.
