"Corporate Universities of Russia – 2024": Book Presentation at HSE Graduate School of Business
The first study of the corporate universities of the country’s largest companies was conducted by the HSE Graduate School of Business in 2022. The project has since become an annual initiative, and the findings of its third stage — carried out with the financial support of SberUniversity — formed the basis of the newly published book "Corporate Universities of Russia – 2024." The project leaders and authors of the main analytical articles in the book are Valery Katkalo, Director of the HSE Graduate School of Business, and Natalia Shumkova, Deputy Director of the School for Corporate Learning.
The presentation was opened with welcome remarks from Valery Katkalo and Natalia Osipchuk, CEO of SberUniversity.
"Today, corporate universities in Russia represent a unique intersection of transformation processes in both education and business. Their role is not just to serve as centers of professional retraining, but to foster environments for organizational and personal development. I am confident that the book, presenting the findings of the 'Corporate Universities of Russia – 2024' study conducted by HSE with the support of SberUniversity, will be valuable both for experienced players in the corporate education market and for companies considering establishing their own corporate university," noted Natalia Osipchuk.

"The third wave of our study on the corporate universities landscape in Russia allowed us to identify new quantitative and qualitative aspects in the development of their business models and program portfolios. At this stage, we also developed and tested an original typology of Russian corporate universities, which received strong recognition from the professional community."
A key feature of the 2024 edition is the inclusion of detailed profiles of 58 corporate universities representing major companies and regional governments across Russia. Based on data from all three research waves, the study identified a core group of 30 consistently active corporate universities. The new edition also presents a significantly expanded dataset and in-depth analytics on program portfolios and management mechanisms for their development.
A major qualitative outcome of the third wave of the research was the development of an original typology of corporate universities in Russia. The need for a conceptual model of corporate university maturity stages had previously been clearly articulated by the professional community. The book introduces the Corporate University Maturity Matrix, created by the study’s authors, and presents the results of its initial application among 31 profiled institutions through a self-assessment of their current stage of maturity.
The presentation continued with a panel discussion titled “What Do We Need to Know About the Development of Corporate Universities in Russia?”, moderated by Valery Katkalo. Participants included industry leaders: Andrey Afonin, Director of the Bank of Russia University; Polina Kolesova, Director of NLMK Corporate University; Vyacheslav Lapin, Director of the Ural Mining and Metallurgical Company University; Natalia Osipchuk, CEO of SberUniversity; and Yulia Uzhakina, CEO of Rosatom Corporate Academy.
Speakers discussed the evolution of corporate universities in Russia over the past 20 years — from early pilot projects in the 1990s to their current role as drivers of business development and organizational transformation. Experts agreed that today’s leading corporate universities have become centers of innovation, influencing not only business but also broader society.
A special atmosphere accompanied the entire presentation of "Corporate Universities of Russia – 2024." A highlight of the event was the announcement of the IV Forum of Corporate Learning Leaders, whose concept was unveiled by Yulia Uzhakina. The Forum will take place in 2025 at the Rosatom Corporate Academy in Nizhny Novgorod.
