Centre for Learning Methodologies has Launched a Series of Workshops about Distance Learning for Professors of GSB

This academic year we are once again facing the necessity to use distance learning. In such circumstances, it is extremely important to keep the high quality of education for each student with new approaches to teaching methods, modern digital tools that can improve the learning experience, and a completely different approach to building communication and interaction between participants of the learning process.

Professors of HSE Graduate School of Business have gained considerable experience of teaching courses in a distance-learning format, and it does not matter whether it is a lecture or a seminar: they did not only used familiar tools but experimented, observed, and tried different methods of online teaching, which made their experience personal and unique. Now the professors can share their thoughts on distance learning with each other.

To start the process of exchanging practices, GSB Centre for Learning Methodologies has launched a series of workshops, so that professors of GSB had a chance to discuss the problems of distance learning with colleagues, talk about improvements of their methods and implementing new ideas on practice.

On November 25, the first seminar was held as a master class on the topic "How to manage educational experience of students when everything’s going online?" The speaker of the master class was Olga Mondrus, an assistant professor from the Department of Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management at HSE Graduate School of Business. Professor Mondrus talked about her methodology of preparing online classes, the experience of using interactive tools with students in order to develop practical skills of conducting an assessment with the method "360", as well as assessing the emotional state of students during online classes. On the event, there was a lively discussion about the role of a tutor in distance learning and the need to develop special competencies for online classes (digital tutor competence). An important conclusion is that professors, in most cases, face similar challenges, which means that the demand for such events, where they discuss what they have done, is already high and will only grow.

We invite all professors of HSE Graduate School of Business to participate in subsequent master classes. Follow the newsletters from GSB Centre for Learning Methodologies with announcements of forthcoming events.
