The project with participation of the HSE Graduate School of Business is among the winners of the National Award “Our Contribution”
The research is conducted jointly by a number of companies and organisations: HSE Graduate School of Business, Sber, the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia, the Association for the Development of Financial Literacy, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation and other participants. The project was noted as contributing to the achievement of national goals in the implementation of the national project “Small and Medium Entrepreneurship” and the federal projects “Assistance in Business Development” and “Support for Start-up Entrepreneurs”.
Two waves of the survey — 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 — helped to obtain reliable data on the level of involvement of the Russian population in entrepreneurship education programmes and the demand for such programmes. The experts prepared recommendations for regional government authorities on how to support small and medium-sized enterprises.
On behalf of the HSE Graduate School of Business, a team of authors led by Dmitry Knatko, Deputy Director of the GSB, is working on the project. The research data was presented at various venues, including SPIEF.
“Business has overcome the turbulence zone, and quite optimistic prospects are opening up for small and medium companies. Supporting entrepreneurs for their effective development is extremely important for the country's economy, which means that educational programmes of various levels are in demand. They become the basis for successful business, especially among young people, as the results of our research have shown,” Dmitry Knatko said.
The project comprehensively covers the entire Russian market of business education — from basic education programmes to additional ones. Experts have analysed more than 5000 educational programmes, which were attended by more than 700 thousand people during the years of monitoring. At the same time, 68% of the trainees are young entrepreneurs under 35 years of age. Almost half of the programme participants are already active business owners or individual entrepreneurs, while the rest are ready to start their own business. In this regard, experts note that educational courses on starting a business, sales at marketplaces, business planning and attracting clients, as well as on financial and legal literacy of an entrepreneur are in demand.
The national award “Our Contribution” is awarded by representatives of business and NGOs for their contribution to the achievement of national goals and implementation of national projects. “National Projects of Russia” is a presidential platform for sustainable development of the country and improvement of people's living standards. Participation in national projects brings the social activity of business to the state level — for the benefit of the whole of Russia and its citizens.
