Call for papers: "Global Smart Cities in the 21st Century: Screening best business practices and policies from Moscow, Los Angeles, Shanghai and Hamburg"
HSE Graduate School of Business in collaboration with Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Business & Social Sciences/ Department of Business is announcing a student conference on Global Smart Cities in the 21st Century: Screening best business practices and policies from Moscow, Los Angeles, Shanghai and Hamburg. On behalf of HSE GSB, the Laboratory for Strategies and Operations in International Business initiated the project.
"Global Smart Cities in the 21st Century: Screening best business practices and policies from Moscow, Los Angeles, Shanghai and Hamburg" is an international pilot project that aims to bring together student groups from 3 continents (Europe, North America, Asia) and 4 global cities by means of collaborative research in international teams.
Student teams will collaborate virtually from Moscow, Los Angeles, Shanghai, and Hamburg during the research phase (September-November 2021). The project will be finalised by a joint project finale to be held in Hamburg f2f and/or hybrid format in November 2021. Travel bursaries for HSE GSB students are available, supported by DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) and BMBF (The Federal Ministry of Education and Research Germany).

If you are interested in taking part in the project, please select 2 research topics that appeal to you from the proposed list below and add one of your own within the project's main theme. Apply now. Write a project proposal in September to pass the selection process. Team up with the students who are interested in the same topic and work together on your research. Then present your results in Hamburg.
Topic list:
- Smart solutions for business survival in Covid-19 era
- Transport and the city
- Creating an X-friendly city (where X stands for senior citizens, child, sports, etc)
- Vision for sustainable cities
Requirements for the project proposals and papers will be provided at a kick-off session in September.
The main deadlines are:
- Application deadline – September 15
- Project proposal deadline – September 30
- Paper submission deadline – October 31
- Project presentation dates – to be confirmed
