GSB Institute of Innovation Management will Hold a Scalerator Programme for Partner Companies of SME Corporation

GSB Institute of Innovation Management will Hold a Scalerator Programme for Partner Companies of SME Corporation

Institute of Innovation Management of HSE Graduate School of Business won the tender for organizing and holding an acceleration programme for technological companies. The programme will be launched in the middle of April and will end in a demo day in June.

GSB Institute of Innovation Management is responsible for organizing the selection of companies, holding an educational programme for them and hosting weekly meetings of trackers (consultants) with the companies they supervise. The programme will start at the beginning of April and end in the middle of June. A demo day will close the programme – participants will be able to present the results of their work to invited experts and prospective partners and share their strategy of business development. The demo day will take place in the HSE Graduate School of Business campus.

This programme is not among the traditional ones as almost three-quarters of its curriculum is devoted to the personal consulting of attendees. It is also different from regular accelerators – participants of the programme will be not startups but rather established companies that strive to develop a new forced strategy of scaling up their business and defend it in a form of a road map at the end. Moreover, the companies from among small and medium-sized enterprises that have shown a high growth rate due to technological innovations in the last three years will take part in the programme.

For the last several years, such programmes in other countries have adopted the name “scalerators” and they are becoming more and more popular. In 2019 and 2020, several scalerator programmes were launched in the USA, Canada, the UK, India, Singapore, Malaysia and Australia. Institute of Innovation Management has experience in organizing scalerators – in 2019, such programme was held with the support of RVC for companies that participate in the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation priority project “National Champions”.

Last year, HSE Graduate School of Business allocated a grant to the research and education track for rapidly developing technology companies of the Institute of Innovation Management, which helped it to develop a new concept quickly.

MSP Corporation is planning to multiply the number of acceleration programmes in its project portfolio.

We notice the demand of technological SME companies from different fields for new knowledge and competencies to drive comprehensive growth of main activity indicators and review their development strategy. While creating the acceleration programme we did not choose single tools of support but rather developed comprehensive solutions for particular business objectives and involved experts of intense business growth. This is the first programme in the cycle of field-oriented accelerators of SME Corporation that will support entrepreneurs on different stages of business development.

Alexander also noted that at the end of the programme, detailed road maps for future development of the participating companies will be formed. Besides, the SME Corporation will offer the graduates of their acceleration programmes special limited financial products.

Director of Institute of Innovation Management Dan Medovnikov believes that the growth in the popularity of scalerators is linked to the growth of interest in rapidly developing innovational middle-sized companies (in recent years about 50 programmes for supporting such companies were launched in the world), and the shift in the focus of state innovation policy to later stages of the innovation cycle.

Both in Russia and in other countries, a big number of programmes for startups and beginners were created, which is an exciting thing. However, the next stages of innovation development are not studied by institutes in the field of innovations that well, and this programme helps to bridge this gap.
