HSE's students among the winners of HackUPC hackathon

HackUPC is one of the biggest technological student hackathons. This year 500 students from all over the world took part there. Among those who passed the virtual tour were 12 students from Russia, and six of them are from our faculty of Business and Management.

The first team of Maxim Dyakov, Alexander Naumov (both from the second year of bachelor program “Business Informatics”) and Tomash Chernushenko (student from the University College of London) developed a special service "Whale protection". This service is intended to prevent teens from suicide by analyzing the level of negative emotions in their posts in social networks (via special keywords) and by calling special psychological centers in case of emergency. This project won in the competition “SmartLocation to save lives» held by the company “Between” and the nomination called #HackHarassment.

 

The second team of Ekaterina Podolskaya, Anton Scherbakov, Nikita Rimskyi (from bachelor program “Business Informatics”) and Stanislav Prodan (from master program “Electronic Business”) worked on the sleep-more.git project. This smart service that will give some advices on improving the quality of the sleep basing on such room conditions like lightning and noise level, humidity and temperature got from sensors. This project won in competition “Best hack by Bloomberg” held by the company “Bloomberg” and won in nomination “Best domain name” in .com.
