HSE Graduate School of Business launches Faculty Development Programs

The Graduate School of Business at HSE University (HSE GSB) is building a sustainable system for faculty professional development. More than 200 faculty members have completed advanced training programs covering a wide range of topics — from using the case method in business education and organizing project-based learning to integrating artificial intelligence into the educational process.

The largest of these initiatives is the “HSE GSB Faculty Workshop”, designed specifically for practitioner-instructors — successful executives and top managers from leading Russian companies who share best practices and their professional expertise with students.

The program brought together faculty from various departments and served as a platform for structuring their experiences across several key areas of teaching practice. In his welcome address at the program’s launch, Valery Katkalo, Dean of HSE GSB, emphasized that it is essential for every instructor at HSE GSB to feel part of a unified academic community that values innovation and continuous growth. First Vice-Rector of HSE University Vadim Radaev also addressed the participants, highlighting the challenges modern university teaching faces.

During the Faculty Workshop, department heads and leading instructors from HSE GSB shared their experiences. Among them were Dmitry Volkov, First Deputy Dean of HSE GSB; Sergey Filonovich, Honored Professor of HSE; Alexander Gabrielov, Deputy Dean; Evgeny Zaramenskikh, Professor and Head of the Business Informatics Department; and many others.

Over four intensive days, participants discussed the evolution of business schools, the specifics of HSE GSB’s educational model, faculty evaluation criteria, course and assessment design, as well as the organization of student project and research work. The program was highly praised by participants, who proposed making the Workshop an annual format.

“There’s no program that can teach you everything for years ahead. What matters most to me is the opportunity to connect and interact with colleagues — both faculty and participants. The professional experience shared in such an open and supportive atmosphere was invaluable. Thank you again for this highly beneficial program!”

“The Faculty Workshop provided answers to practical questions across a broad range of topics — from strategic approaches to teaching and communication with students to the use of artificial intelligence in education. A significant part of this intensive program was devoted to hands-on work in designing course syllabi, in line with HSE GSB’s best practices.”

In addition to the Workshop, HSE GSB has implemented programs focused on mastering the case method and creating teaching cases, developing project-based learning and mentorship in term paper supervision, and a seminar on the use of artificial intelligence in education. All of these initiatives aim to strengthen applied teaching competencies and address the challenges of digital transformation.

“At HSE GSB, we are committed to creating conditions that support our faculty’s continuous professional growth and knowledge exchange. Through development programs — from workshops and AI seminars to case-method training and project-based learning — we not only implement cutting-edge educational practices but also foster a unified academic environment where innovation, openness, and adaptability are valued. I am confident that the knowledge and skills acquired will be reflected in the learning process and become a foundation for our students’ continued success.”

As the business school of first choice, HSE GSB continues to implement modern educational technologies, strengthen its practice-oriented approach, and create unique conditions for the development of practitioner-instructors who can combine academic depth with real-world business experience.
