Embracing Diversity: Reflections on doing business in UAE by Marianna Simonyan, distinguished GSB alumna

On 21 November HSE Graduate School of Business had the privilege of hosting Marianna Simonyan, country manager for Tech & Startups at Seed Group, Dubai. Marianna's presentation "Dubai yesterday, today, and tomorrow — successful economic principles of the UAE," was devoted to the discussion of the economic strategies that have propelled the United Arab Emirates to prominence.

Embracing Diversity: Reflections on doing business in UAE by Marianna Simonyan, distinguished GSB alumna

The lecture began with an overview of Dubai's transformation over the time, tracing its roots from a modest trading hub to the thriving metropolis we see today. Marianna explained the success of the UAE with their unique strategic approach. She highlighted the pivotal role of the Dubai Industrial Strategy 2030 to elevate Dubai into a global platform for knowledge-based, sustainable and innovation-focused business.

Marianna also shared her own experience of working as a country manager and the insights about doing business in the UAE. She emphasized the role of family and networking for those who are just thinking of entering the Arabic market.

The presentation concluded with an introduction of 10 principles driving the success of the UAE. These principles are believed to position the country as a globally integrated economy offering a fully-fledged digital infrastructure, secure systems, adaptable legislation, a forward-thinking mindset, and providing an attractive destination for innovative talent and investment. Some of the principles Marianna Simonyan discussed with students were attracting top talents, investing in the digital economy, offering a strong and fair legal environment, and others. Following these principles is believed to ensure the fulfillment of the UAE Net Zero 2050 goal to make Emirates the first Middle East and North Africa country to reach net-zero emissions.

Summing up the presentation, Marianna engaged in an interactive Q&A session, allowing students to get further clarification on key points raised during the lecture.

HSE GSB is proud of its graduates’ success and happy to see them coming back to their alma mater and sharing experience with the next generations.
