HSE Graduate School of Business holds charity drive with a foundation that helps elderly people

In December 2024, the HSE Graduate School of Business (GSB) held a charity drive in collaboration with the “Old Age is a Joy” (Starost' V Radost') Foundation. The initiative aimed to bring care and attention to elderly residents of the Klin Regional Social Care Center (ЦСА). The event brought together over 100 participants, including GSB students and staff as well as volunteers from the “Ya v dele” community.

Preparation for the event began in early December. As part of the initiative, students, staff, and simply caring individuals collected gift boxes to bring joy to elderly people ahead of the New Year. Each gift set was personalized and included warm socks, towels, hygiene products, tea, and delicious treats. A valuable addition came in the form of gifts handmade by students: Christmas ornaments and personalized New Year cards created during a master class by the GSB volunteer community “Ya v dele.” These gifts made each box unique and filled it with warmth and care.

The visit to the Klin Regional Social Care Center took place on December 26. GSB students and staff personally handed over the gift boxes to elderly residents. Along with the gifts, they shared warmth, attention, and sincere wishes. Conversations with the Foundation's beneficiaries, their smiles, and words of gratitude made this day unforgettable for all participants.

“The Graduate School of Business has been organizing this charity event since 2021. And each year, we see how it transforms from a one-time event into a New Year tradition. What’s especially valuable is that students are eager to help, and we actively support them in this, developing the volunteering direction and promoting the third mission of HSE within the Graduate School of Business. It’s always a pleasure to see faculty and staff also getting involved. By joining efforts for this charity event, we made a New Year miracle happen.”

“Throughout December, the Student Affairs Office was collecting sweet gifts for the elderly, hygiene items, and other essential household items. All of this was made possible thanks to the contribution of each person who took part in the event.

It’s truly heartwarming that the charity initiative resonated with both students and staff of GSB. Even though December is a busy month full of deadlines and tasks, they still found time to bring gifts to lonely grandmas and grandpas, make handmade ornaments, sign cards, and give their attention to those in need. We plan to continue organizing such events not only for the New Year, so we welcome everyone who wants to join and do good.”

Olga Blokhina

Curator of the “Old Age is a Joy” Foundation

“Old age is something that awaits each of us, our parents, our loved ones. And we believe that every elderly person, regardless of their education, profession, or family situation, deserves a dignified life in old age. If we start changing society’s attitude towards the elderly and people with disabilities now, fight stereotypes, and talk about kindness by example, then we can be a little more confident about the future.

I and the ‘Old Age is a Joy’ Foundation are deeply grateful to the HSE Graduate School of Business for their responsiveness and for being an example of what young people should be like. Every meeting with students, every card from them, every kind word and unexpected gift — it’s always appreciated, lifts the spirits of lonely pensioners, and helps them not to feel down.”

3rd-year student of the “Marketing and Market Analytics” program, organizer of “Ya v dele” master classes

“Every year before the New Year holidays we organize an event together with the ‘Old Age is a Joy’ Foundation. Last year we painted mugs, this year we decided to make felt ornaments with the whole GSB community. During the New Year StudTeam event, anyone could come and make an ornament for the grandmas and grandpas, and thanks to the Student Affairs Office, the ornaments were delivered to the recipients.”
