About the Department

Department of Strategic and International Management (DSIM)

The Department was established in 2020 upon the creation of the HSE Graduate School of Business through the reorganization of the Faculty of Business and Management (FBM), based on the departments of general and strategic management, project management, as well as continuing professional education units. Today, the department's key competencies cover strategic management, project management, international business, entrepreneurship, and ESG. Teaching is conducted at all levels: bachelor's, master's, doctoral (PhD), MBA, continuing professional education programs, as well as in the formats of Minors and Magolego for students across the entire university.

Human Resources

The department employs over 40 full-time faculty members and more than 30 invited lecturers. Among the full-time staff are 6 Doctors of Sciences, 4 PhDs, 1 DBA, 21 Candidates of Sciences (equivalent to PhD), 1 Honored Professor and 4 Ordinary Professors of HSE University. Including part-time staff, there are: 5 Professors of Practice, 2 Associate Professors of Practice, and 4 Senior Lecturers of Practice.

Research and Teaching-Methodology Outcomes

Faculty members of the department publish in Q1 SCOPUS international journals such as the European Management Review, Journal of Product Innovation Management, Technological Forecasting and Social Change, International Journal of Project Management, Production, Planning & Control, and others. They have authored chapters in collective monographs published by Springer and Routledge. The department has prepared and published at HSE University the textbook "Project Management: A Foundational Course," methodological guides on SWOT analysis, business planning, and management consulting, as well as 6 teaching case studies based on Russian companies, which are included in the GSB case study collection.

Industry Expertise

The practice faculty are active top managers and experts. Among them are members of boards of directors and management boards, vice-presidents, heads of business units from leading companies (Sberbank, VTB, MTS, Gazprom Neft, Polyus Gold, Rosgosstrakh), and project managers at BCG, A.T. Kearney, PwC. Many hold MBA degrees from leading business schools (Chicago Booth, CEIBS, etc.).
