Speaker:

Abstract:

The Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) are critical issues for the AIS mission of establishing for its members “an environment that recognizes the inherent worth of every person and a group that fosters dignity, understanding, mutual respect, and that embraces diversity”. This is an important prerequisite for achieving the goals of the AIS community of “the open exchange of ideas and the freedom of thought and expression”.

To tackle these D&I challenges AIS published in 2018 its famous “Diversity and Inclusion Report on Recommendations for AIS Communities” document that provides recommendations to AIS Chapters in support and development of their commitment to D&I. These include three major elements – activity areas of AIS Chapters:

1. Set diversity and inclusion goals specific to your community

2. Develop a strategy for reaching diversity and inclusion goals

3. Consider a variety of different avenues to increase D&I via member engagement

In his talk, Dr. Antoine Harfouche — one of leading European experts in IS/AI and active promoter of the D&I of regional chapters of AIS — suggests answers to the following questions. How can such a complex D&I issues be improved for regional AIS Chapters? What are approaches to it? What are prospects for cooperation of regional AIS Chapters within an open AIS Community environment? What are main organizational directions and best practice in D&I? What are prospective regions that benefit most from introduction of D&I practice and solutions? What are current and future developments in the international AIS Community of Diversity and Inclusion?
