Course Syllabus

The course syllabus for Bachelor’s, Specialist, and Master’s Degree Programmes is developed by teachers on the basis of the Regulations on Course Syllabi for Bachelor’s, Specialist, and Master’s Degree Programmes at National Research University Higher School of Economics. Syllabus is the main agreement with students on the process and conditions of training, and the educational process is organized according to it. A syllabus should include the content of the course (its goals, topics, literature for further reading) and methods of work with students (types of work, assessment principles).

How does course syllabus look?

The syllabus is prepared in a special constructor in the LMS and have a unified template. Shortened versions of the syllabuses (syllabus cards) are automatically uploaded to the websites of educational programmes as well as to the unified database of training courses. Full syllabus versions can be accessed from on the 'Full syllabus' tab. Full syllabus versions are only available to users who have an LMS account and contain more detailed information on the forms of control of the discipline.

The following information is needed to create a new discipline syllabus in LMS: the content and structure of the discipline, its place and importance in the student's education system, its learning objectives and forms of organisation of learning and control, a set of planned learning outcomes. In addition to this, a syllabus should also include the control elements, their form, content and procedure, the tools and technologies used, the grading system used, and the criteria for grading the control elements. A syllabus implies the identification of the control elements which are subject to retake/not subject to retake/are blocking, the formula for calculating (rule of definition) intermediate and/or final grades in the discipline, the rounding rules and other characteristics of the control elements.
