Cultural immersion of HSE GSB International students: visit to Izmailovo Kremlin
On 10th December, international students embarked on a cultural journey to the Izmailovo Kremlin in Moscow. 10 students from Nigeria, Pakistan, Vietnam, Peru, USA and others were able to experience Russia from a different perspective and feel the vibe of this unique country.
Izmailovo Kremlin is a cultural complex that serves as a vibrant testament to Russia's past and present. The complex showcases traditional Russian architecture and hosts different activities and attractions, making it a perfect destination to explore.
The GSB international students, accompanied by the manager of the International Office, Olga Spiridonova, were welcomed by the tour guide, who led them through all of the different corners and craft shops while telling more about Russian history and culture. Students were able to visit a museum of Russian toys and check out the old-time innovations, to try national drinks made of berries, honey and oats and to get to the top of the bell tower making wishes and playing the bell music.
The highlight of the day was the matreshka painting workshop, during which students were introduced to the history of these wooden dolls and learnt that the cost of some toys was nearly the monthly salary during the old times. Today, one of the Matreshkas presented at the museum costs about 60k rubles, which still makes nearly the monthly salary of an average worker. This hands-on experience allowed the students to not only appreciate the beauty of Russian craftsmanship but also try it themselves.
Gabriel Moshlyak, director of the International Office, emphasized the importance of such cultural excursions in fostering a deeper understanding of the host country.

“My visit to the Izmailov Kremlin was an unforgettable experience. The vivid colors and intricate designs of the buildings instantly drew me in, making me feel like I had stepped back in time to different periods of Russian history.
One of the most memorable aspects of my visit was the matryoshka doll painting masterclass. This experience not only gave me a deeper appreciation for Russian artistic traditions, but it also allowed me to connect with the culture on a more personal level. I even created my own unique matryoshka to take home as a souvenir.
My visit to the Izmailov Kremlin was a truly enriching experience that I will never forget. It was a wonderful opportunity to immerse myself in Russian culture and learn about its history and traditions."
