Orientation session for incoming mobility students
An orientation session for incoming mobility students has been held at the GSB campus. Our guests have arrived from universities in Austria, Belgium, Germany and Italy to study with us this semester. After the meeting, they got acquainted with the GSB campus on Shabolovka, visited the library, figured their way through the labyrinth of our corridors, and received student ID’s.
"The welcome at the Graduate School of Business was great. Starting not only with the first day on campus, but with my arrival in Moscow, when my body already expected me and showed me around my dorm neighborhood. Since the start our buddies constantly organize events with us, ranging from visiting parks to making a boat tour on the Moskva. Thanks a lot for the great support. As exchange student at HSE GSB I feel very appreciated", - Fabian Bieringer, Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg, Germany.
The key issues discussed at the introductory meeting which was held by the staff of the International Office were the grading system at GSB, the requirements the professors have for undergraduate and graduate students, and the importance of sending all assignments before the deadline. As it turned out, we aren't so different from our guests' home universities. The official part ended with a meeting with our colleagues from the library who helped students register their e-reader tickets, and a short presentation by a representative from the Erasmus Student Network, who talked about the events that ESN organizes for mobility students.
After that, the GSB Buddy team, composed this year of GSB bachelor and master students, held a team-building session which helped the group to get acquainted with each other, then organized a contest testing our guests knowledge of major facts and figures related to our school, and concluded the evening with an outing in the Gorky Park “The buddy programme here at HSE was perhaps the most pleasant surprise I have encountered so far. The students that volunteered, as well as the staff of the International Office, have been an enormous help in guiding us through the process of moving, accommodating and adapting to life at the university and in Russia. From campus tours to Moscow tours, the buddies have truly ensured for us a smooth and fun transition to a new and exciting country. “- shared her impressions Magdalena Cheptene, a student from Germany.
Not all the exchange students have arrived yet, we are still expecting more guests from the Czech Republic, France, the Netherlands, Portugal, Brazil, Spain, China, Romania, Slovakia and Switzerland. In total there will be 51 exchange students from 14 European, Asian and South American countries, 22 of them engaged in the bachelor's and 28 in the master's degree programs. If you have international students in your group, it is up to you to make them feel welcome. Do you want to be part of the GSB international community? Create it yourself: get to know our international students, throw parties together, invite them to our GSB events and activities, and join us at the International Office tea parties.
