The Department was established in 2020 as part of the creation of the HSE Graduate School of Business through the reorganisation of the Faculty of Business and Management (FBM). The Department builds on the academic foundations of organisational behaviour and human resource management, which were core areas within the HRM Division of FBM. Today, the Department’s key competencies cover organisational behaviour, human resource management, and related areas of people management. Teaching is delivered across all levels, including undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral (PhD), MBA, DBA, GMP, and other executive education programmes, as well as within programmes of other HSE University divisions and in the Magolego format for all students.
As of 1 January 2026, the Department employs 20 full-time academic staff (including 15 full-time equivalent positions) and 2 visiting lecturers. Among the full-time faculty, there are 2 Doctors of Sciences (Dr. habil.) and 7 Candidates of Sciences (PhD equivalent). The Department includes 1 Distinguished Full Professor of HSE University. The average age of full-time faculty is 49, while that of visiting lecturers is 35.
Including both full-time and part-time appointments, the Department comprises 8 Professors of Practice and 3 Associate Professors of Practice.
Between 2020 and 2025, faculty members published their research in Q1 academic journals such as European Management Review, Journal of Management Development, and Foresight and STI Governance. In addition, they authored books and book chapters published by the HSE Graduate School of Business.
During this period, the Department’s faculty developed 10 teaching case studies based on best practices of Russian companies, which were included in the GSB case collection, as well as one analytical report.
The practice-oriented faculty include experienced senior executives who have served or are currently serving as members of boards of directors and management boards, vice-presidents, and heads of divisions in leading Russian and international companies.

Some faculty members have held senior executive positions in international companies such as Egon Zehnder, Coca-Cola HBC, Danone, Baker Hughes, and Lafarge. Many hold MBA degrees from leading international (INSEAD, Antwerp Business School, IMD Business School) and Russian business schools. Faculty members have also served as Chairs of the Council for Professional Qualifications in Human Resource Management, as well as of the HR Committee of the Russian Managers Association, and are members of the Expert Council of the “Leaders of Russia” initiative.
