The Higher School of Economics Graduate School of Business hosted an open dialogue with Elena Tyatenkova, Senior Vice President and Head of Network Management at Alfa-Bank.

The event brought together more than 150 students from various business school programs.

In her conversation with the students, Elena spoke about her career path and shared her vision of success: it begins with the willingness to take responsibility, to test yourself in real projects, and to never stop learning.

The meeting went far beyond the usual lecture format and turned into a lively and engaging discussion. Students asked a wide range of questions: what challenges top managers face, how management in the banking sector differs from other industries, which skills and qualities are most important for young professionals, how to build professional connections, and why it is essential to develop a personal brand.

Particular interest was sparked by a question about team development and the search for new growth opportunities. The discussion touched on how to build a supportive environment, the importance of maintaining professional contacts, and the knowledge and habits that help sustain motivation at every stage of a career.

An open dialogue with students is an effective combination of a public talk and live communication with young, ambitious people. The younger generation is more progressive and energetic — they bring many new ideas and encourage us to pay attention to things we might otherwise overlook. For students, such events are very important, as they give them the opportunity to learn about how companies operate, ask questions directly to top executives, and define their career paths as early as their first years of study.

The open dialogue with Elena Tyatenkova continued a series of meetings that Alfa-Bank and HSE GSB organize for students. Previous guests have included Vladimir Verkhoshinsky, Chief Executive Officer of Alfa-Bank, and Marat Ismagulov, HR Director of Alfa-Bank.

Such events provide valuable experience for our students. They allow them to see from the inside how large businesses are managed, to hear real-life stories from professionals, and to ask direct questions to those making strategic decisions. For us, as the business school of first choice, it is important to offer students not only fundamental knowledge but also direct access to the expertise and current practices of business leaders. This gives them a true understanding of what qualities and skills really matter and helps them build careers in the country’s largest companies.
