Family Business in Japan: Professor Kenji Yokoyama of NUCB Business School Delivered an Online Lecture for Students of the Graduate School of Business

On November 21, with the support of the Centre for Asian Business and Management Research, an online lecture by Professor Kenji Yokoyama of Nagoya University of Commerce & Business (NUCB) Business School took place. The event brought together over 70 students from the Graduate School of Business (GSB) and other divisions of the National Research University Higher School of Economics (HSE University).

Professor Yokoyama is a renowned expert in strategic and international management, holds a PhD, and is an alumnus of Waseda University. His contributions to business education have been recognized with prestigious awards, including the International Trade Promotion Award—received twice—and the Foreign Trade Academy Prize. Additionally, he previously served as President of the Asia-Pacific Business Schools Association (AAPBS).

The lecture focused on family businesses in Japan and their role in the country’s economy. Participants learned how Japanese companies integrate tradition and innovation in management, how the Japanese management model differs from its Western counterpart, and what valuable lessons it offers to today’s global business community. For students, this event provided a unique opportunity to gain insights directly from a representative of one of Japan’s leading business schools, allowing engaged attendees to deepen their understanding of the distinctive features of Japanese business practices.
